Designed for sensitive skin - made for everyone.

Created with autoimmune and inflammatory skin conditions in mind, ECO-SKIN is a rebellion against bandaid.

FOUNDERS STORY

From Pickle Shop to Startup

ECO-SKIN was founded by Jonah Goodman, an industrial designer and biofabricator whose work sits at the intersection of fermentation, biology, and technology. At 17, Jonah was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, a chronic inflammatory disease that reshaped his understanding of health, healing, and the human body. Living with an autoimmune condition sparked a deep interest in the microbiome and the often-overlooked role living systems play in recovery, resilience, and care.

During his master’s at Parsons School of Design, Jonah began exploring fermentation as a medium for industrial design while becoming acutely aware of how sensitive and reactive the body can be. This dual perspective led him to question the synthetic, plastic-based materials that dominate modern medicine, particularly in wound care. For someone with a compromised immune system, aggressive adhesives and occlusive plastics are not neutral—they can be disruptive or irritating. While most wound care relies on petroleum-derived films and chemically engineered binders, ECO-SKIN takes a radically different approach.

THE INITIAL SPARK

Working as a fermentation chef at The Cultured Pickle Shop sparked Jonah’s interest in living systems, leading him to pursue a master’s at Parsons School of Design to study fermentation through the lens of industrial design.

FIRST SUCCESSFUL PROTOTYPE

The first successful ECO-SKIN prototype was developed during the second semester of Jonah’s program, translating his early research into a promising material for further development / testing.
